LA3D will be holding several fun and unique contests.
1) Speed Contest We will be requisitioning a radar gun for this featured event. Contestant will drive their heli at full speed into the designated radar gun area. Contestant can approach the "gun area" from high altitude or lateral speed build-up. Note that the contestant can bring their helicopter to the non-negotiable altitude of 400 ft.
Winner is the one with the highest speed.
2) Limbo Contest Two pole like structures set apart at a reasonable and safe distance will suspend a party streamer across them representing the target height of the limbo aparatus. Contestants will drive their heli under the streamer without shredding/touching the streamer AND not touch the runway with their skids.
The winner is the one that can go the lowest without touching the ground with their skids (NOTE: blades okay to touch). 3) Auto-rotation Contest TBA - We are trying to put a twist on auto-rotation contests. We are finalizing the decision with an internal vote based on a couple designs.
4) Pylon Race LA3D Style Six four foot tall wood structures will be placed in a line approximately 50 ft away. Contestant will slalom through the course designated by the event proctor. A diagram showing a simple course will be provided to each contestant (as seen on the left).
5) Aircraft Carrier Rescue Mission We have designed a large aircraft structure out of two field tables and plywood mimicking the design of an aircraft carrier. The contestant will take-off from the aircraft carrier structure and pickup objects (in the form of wire-hoops bound around children's dolls) then drop them off anywhere in the carrier. The contestant who picks up the most objects within the designated amount of minutes wins.
Location: Event will be held at the LA3D Helicopter Funfly on the Sunday of the event (October 11, 2009) at the South end of the field represented by the green circle in the picture below:
